More than 1.2 million people want to raid the notorious Area 51 to “see them aliens,” but the U.S. Air Force isn’t having it.

The planned event, outlined on Facebook as Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us, is supposed to take place on September 20, 2019 – and it’s in the planning stages right now. The event went viral quickly, gaining supporters from all corners of the United States, with a group description that says, “We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.” (Errors included!)

And while it’s a joke, the event prompted the U.S. Air Force to issue a statement.

“[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” a spokeswoman told The Washington Post. “The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”

Area 51 was officially acknowledged in 2013, but there have been conspiracy theories swirling about it since 1989, when physicist Bob Lazar said he’d worked with alleged alien technology in the restricted space.

But Lazar doesn’t want anyone storming the base.

“I have to comment on this ‘Storm Area 51’ thing. I do understand it was started as a joke by someone, but there are a number of people who are actually planning on showing up. This is a misguided idea,” Lazar posted on his Instagram account. “Area 51 is a classified research base. There are no aliens or alien technology located there. The only place there was ever any alien technology was at Site S4, south of Area 51 proper. That was 30 years ago. S4 may have moved decades ago or it’s possible it’s no longer being used for the project.”

The last time someone attempted to get into Area 51, he was shot.

What Do You Think?

Do you think anyone will really show up at Area 51 on September 20? Would you go if you could? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, so please feel free to share them with me on  Facebook or on Twitter. Join the conversation and make your voice heard!
