How to Help Your Lawyer Win Your Caseby Attorney Carlos Gamino on 04/15/14
We’ve all heard the saying “Two heads are better than one.” That’s especially true when it comes to criminal charges; you can actually help your lawyer win your case. Here’s what Attorney Carlos A. Gamiño has to say.
When you’re fighting criminal charges, it’s important to pull out all the stops. That includes helping your lawyer help you. Some people see their own attorney as an adversary – and that’s not the way to win a case. Always keep in mind that your lawyer is on your team. You’re working together to better your chances of winning.
That said, there are a few ways you can help your lawyer win your case:
· Communicate clearly and consistently. Make sure that you and your lawyer are always on the same page, and make sure that if you change your mind about something, you let your lawyer know right away.
· Be honest with your lawyer. No matter how embarrassing, painful or difficult it is, tell your attorney everything. The things that you two talk about are completely private; he or she can’t use them in court unless you mutually agree that they’ll be necessary to your case. Additionally, your lawyer can’t even tell anyone what you’ve said unless there’s an immediate danger to someone else.
· Provide all the necessary paperwork. If your lawyer asks you for tax documents, photo evidence, or just about anything else, go out of your way to find it. Doing this saves both of you time – and it saves you money, because if your attorney has to do extensive research, you’ll likely be billed for the time it takes.
While there’s never any guarantee on the outcome of a case, you’ll stand a better chance of coming out on top if you’re cooperative, communicative and honest with your lawyer.
Best of luck to you,
